The current HVAC class at Northeast Technical Institute in Bangor spent a week working at Dabesta Pizza to install new equipment.

Along with the day-to-day delicious operations you’d expect from a pizza restaurant—be sure to get one of their JUMBO slices—Dabesta also distributes its pizza dough throughout New England. In the past year, their dough business has nearly doubled, which has taxed their 33,000 cubic foot freezer. With the help of Jim LaBreque, the students installed an additional evaporator and sub cooler. After the new equipment was installed, the freezer temperature was holding steady at 0 degrees—more than 20 degrees colder than prior to the work of the students.

As part of their course work, the students will return to Dabesta Pizza to document superheat, sub-cooling, and other temperature parameters pertaining to proper equipment operation.  Chances are good they’ll pick up a slice while they’re there! They’ve earned it!
